Compost Happens
Sustainable gardening is on the rise. There is increasingly more evidence that avoiding manmade chemicals in your garden benefits your health as well as the environment. Amending the soil organically increases the nutrition of your food as well as decreasing water usage and maintaining the safety of our groundwater. Compost and compost tea are key components in the preservation of soil health.
SoilSoup compost tea provides superior liquid compost that can be easily brewed in 24 hours. SoilSoup greatly improves the tilth of the soil by infusing it with billions of microbes to help meet the carbon needs of your garden.
Why are microbes so important?
• They form a complex symbiotic relationship with roots
• Microbes trap nitrogen and make it plant available
• They convert rocks and clay into plant available fertilizer
• They make hormones and other chemical agents required for growth
• They degrade harmful manmade chemicals left in the soil
• They produce glue like material that improves soil structure and increases water retention.
The ( New 7 gallon) & 25 gallon “Home Brewing” kits come complete with all the components necessary to start brewing. The aeration pump is our custom designed "BioBlender". This self contained unit produces the fine air bubbles needed for maximum oxygen saturation and there are no hoses, air-stones or other attachments needed. It's an easy system to use and it produces a very healthy aerobic compost tea.
SoilSoup Nutrient Solution and Worm Compost plus water are the ingredients used to make genuine SoilSoup liquid compost. They can be used in any brewer to make a cost effective garden friendly brew. They work especially well in SoilSoup brewing systems.
SoilSoup Nutrients are a proprietary blend of organic materials designed to grow the maximum population of garden ready soil microbes. To insure freshness our nutrients are pasteurized before bottling.
SoilSoup Probiotic is a mildly acidic solution that is used to treat stressed tree roots. A stressed tree will often exhibit foliage problems showing spots or insect damage. Since trees have no immune system, they must rely on the symbiotic relationship between the roots and soil biota. If this goes wrong human intervention is required to bring back the balance. SoilSoup Probiotic reintroduces the beneficial microbes that include lactic acid producing bacteria that is much like yogurt or probiotic for humans. Other important families of microbes in this product include Actinomycetes of the phylum Actinobacteria which are the biochemical factories responsible for antibiotics such as streptomycin.
What is the shelf life of the SoilSoup Nutrient Solution?
Until the bottle is opened, there is no limit to the shelf life. Once opened there is the possibility for contamination and it is recommended that you promptly cap after dispensing.
What is the shelf life of the SoilSoup Worm Compost?
The worm compost will degrade over time and you will realize best results if it is consumed within 2 growing seasons. Store in a cool dark place to maintain quality.
What is the shelf life of freshly brewed SoilSoup?
It is best to apply SoilSoup within 24/hrs after the end of a brewing cycle.
How does temperature effect the time needed to complete the brewing cycle?
86 degrees = 24/hrs
76 degrees = 48/hrs
66 degrees = 96/hrs
50 degrees or less = will not work
How do I know when the SoilSoup is ready?
1. There is a ring of “bio-slime” around the inside of the container
2. There is brownish foam on top of the soup
3. There is an “earthy” aroma from the soup
4. Prior to being fully brewed, it will have a slightly sweet odor from the nutrient solution not yet being fully consumed by the growing microbial population
Do I need to remove the chlorine from my water before I brew?
If you are on a municipal water supply, it is important that you “deplete” any added chlorine or chlorimine prior to starting your SoilSoup brew. Listed below are a few options for getting chlorine out of your water:
1. After filling up your pail or tub with water, run the BioBlender for a minimum of 2 hours in the water without any nutrient or compost mixed in.
2. After filling up your pail or tub of water, let it sit uncovered for 2 to 3 days. The chlorine will gas off.
3. If you want to speed up the process, purchase a water filter that removes chlorine.
We also recommend utilizing test strips to confirm the chlorine has been removed.
